History of Math Presentation Day 2 - Four Things I Learned

1. I learned from Mike’s presentation how music was related to Pythagoreans. Moreover, it inspires me to practice cross-curriculum teachings such as integrating music, physics and math. (Also, the use of animations and visualizations on Mike’s slides is amazing!)

2. Although I heard about the bridge problem before, I did not know the story of its origin. Thanks to Austin, now I have a better understanding of it and probably I can introduce the story in my teaching in the future.

3. I appreciate that Ivan mentioned indigenous measurements in the presentation. It inspires me that the history of land claims could be introduced to students in math content as well.

4. I enjoy the stories about Gauss in Emilie’s presentation. These funny stories make the mathematician more like a real person who actually existed on earth to me. I believe students could have a similar feeling when I introduce stories about ancient mathematicians like these to them.
